Major Legislative Wins for Habitat Indiana

In 2023, we passed the Attainable Homeownership Tax Credit which provides Habitat donors a state tax credit for 50%. If you're interested in hearing more about this program, click the link above.

SAFE Act Exemption
We were able to pass an exemption to some prohibitive licensing requirements for large lenders. As nonprofit lenders that often do not lend with complicated interest schedules or ballooning payments, our transactions are as simple as mortgages can be. Because of this, we did not want Indiana Affiliates to have to jump through the same hoops as banks who lend to thousands of Hoosiers annually. This exemption saves Habitat about $500,000 annually.

Property Tax Exemption
We passed a bill to keep Habitats in Indiana tax exempt on the properties we hold prior to building on them. This saves every Habitat in the state thousands of dollars.
